Financial Comparisons by Jason Russell, Stephen Muldrow, and Justin David

Although our friends were a bit reluctant to indulge in financial conversations, we made every effort to pull as much information from them as possible. The similarities in their weekly budget were amazingly similar to what we're used to spending in America. On average, they told us that they spend about 3,000 yen a week in total, which is pretty much standard across the board for college students. I mean between the three of us, we spend about 250 dollars per week on average. They broke the 3,000 yen down into wants vs. needs. Surprisingly it was split down the middle. 1,500 yen of their money was directed for essentials: food, transportation, etc. The other 1,500 yen was spent on things that they viewed as pleasures, whether it is going to the bar or going bowling. This surprises us because we spend about twice as much on wants as we do on needs. I guess you can accredit that to bad spending habits, but nonetheless, it is our way of life. We also inquired about jobs, seeing as though two of us have part time jobs to support of our lifestyles. Suguru and Sadayasu do not have jobs, however, Kaz has a part time job. They told us that it is very expensive to live in Tokyo, and they had to adjust because they are from smaller, inexpensive cities outside of Tokyo.
