An American's Japanese life VI

May 20, 2015

As an attempt to correct the unjust falling through of our sumo plans from yesterday( or the previous blog), we decide to go today. That went that, just like yesterday, we had to get up early and take the metro plus what felt like a 2 mile walk to get back to the ticket master. It was a pain, but this time we were sure that we would get to watch sumo wresting at first hand. After we were counted, we were disband to go to school and prepare for class. Class went as normal. We discussed and turned in our homework assignment and went on with our lessons.
The market class had a planned "field trip" after class. We were going to see this huge display filled with innovated technology. I said "were" because upon our arrival we learned that it was close for that particular day. So we went ahead to attempted to reschedule it for tomorrow. I am curious to see how that is going to work do to the amount of stuff that we are doing tomorrow, but i am sure that when the time comes we will know of the plans.
The closing of the building did not stop all of us. While some went back to the Hostel to caught up on some sleep, some of us seized this time and used it to our advantage. With the free time we were giving, we went to the Ueno Park Zoo. This zoo was beautiful. It was clean, did not smell too bad, and had a large amount of wildlife. I would not expect a Japanese zoo to have Zebras and Polar bears in it. We walked around the zoo for about a good 2 and a half hours before the time has come. What time you ask? The time of watch the sport that we've all been waiting for...Sumo Wrestling.
I split up from the Zoo group and traversed the maze that is known as the Japan Metro Lines( which get easier and easier as the days passes). I got back to place where we were this morning to pick up to tickets and met up with the sumo watching group. We went and claimed some seats in the nose-breed section and prepared our self for the fight. This was our first ever sumo event, so we did not know what to expect. A typically sumo watch consist of 5 minutes of preparation and 5 seconds of actual fighting. I did not know what was going now. The only thing I had to go off of was the roar of the Japanese crowd whenever something happened. It was a good experience, but I am fine with not going back. I am sumo wrestling is something that you grow to like once you get to know it more.
