5 items and their 4 p's

  • Product- Magic the Gathering, with the cards made into Japanese
  • Price- The price was relatively the same. The booster box cost me $111, which is US price
  • Place- I found these cards located in BIC Camera's 5th floor (toy store), so it's clearly meant to appeal to a younger audience.
  • Promotion- To market this product they had cleverly designed displays which made the customer take a laminated card to the counter to get the product. This seems like a great way to help them keep the cost of cards low
  • Product- Denny's restaurant
  • Price- The prices on beef products where drastically higher than in America. Almost 2,000 yen for a beef steak and potatoes.
  • Place- Placed in the center of high traffic areas.
  • Promotion- They use things familiar with the Japanese culture. Dishes are fashioned for Japanese cuisine.

  • Product- Monster Energy Drink
  • Price- 200 yen per can, roughly the same price as in America
  • Place- Any convenience store, vending machine, retail store, and restaurants. Generally kept cold.
  • Promotion- The product is kept cold, and generally in an easy to grab display. These are meant to be impulse buys.
  • Product- Kraft Parmesan Cheese
  • Price- 202 yen. This is terribly expensive for a tiny bottle of cheese. However cheese is a lot more valuable of a good here.
  • Place- Mostly found in grocery stores, not so much in convenience stores. Cheese isn't as big in Japan as it is America, so it's not really placed in fast moving sales areas.
  • Promotion- In Japan the promotion is very limited for this product.
  • Product- iPod products
  • Price- Yet again this product had the same price as the products in America.
  • Place- This display was placed in plain sight in a high traffic area of BIC Camera.
  • Promotion- The promotion here is pretty amazing. They use lots of bright colors, and even have unique products.
