Day 6 was Mother’s Day for us but not in the USA. I am still not used to the time difference called my mom a day before Mother’s Day happened in the US. With it being a rainy day we decided to stay local to Ueno and shop at surrounding stores in alleys nearby for souvenirs for our family. While doing so we came across some sort of event that loads of Japanese people were participating in. We weren’t sure if this was some sort of celebration for Mother’s Day, a festival, or some annual event. There were large crowds of people following a group in the center that were carrying some large statue or symbol on their shoulders. When someone was tired or couldn’t beat the weight someone surrounding the center would swap with the person. The group blocked streets and walked in traffic carrying a large figure. After witnessing that, we shopped at some stores and returned to the hostel to start on our assignments.
