This afternoon we visited the Metropolitan building in Shinjuku! This was an observatory point and it was another great view of the city. I visited the Skytree the evening before so I would rank this experience second. The entire TnCIS group took multiple group photos before we were left on our own to explore the metropolitan building’s gift shop for ourselves. I purchased many items and we went back to the wall of windows. I was very excited to see my name on a building in the distance. It was a sporting goods store and I was able to see it closer later in the day.
After this, my marketing class visited Me Tokyo Shinjuku. Me Tokyo is three stories worth of claw machine game, Photobooths, and cosplay costumes. This company appeals to people of all ages and demographics. The first two levels were strictly claw machines with prizes varying in over a hundred characters. In between games the workers adjust the prizes so guests have a fair chance to win. The third floor had about 8 photo booths that varied in visual effects. A popular option among Japanese is an effect that widens the eyes and shrinks the face.
Once we left Me Tokyo we were given the opportunity to explore Shinjuku on our own. A small group of students joined me for dinner at a local ramen shop. The quality of this ramen was amazing and I will definitely be returning. After wrapping up with dinner we visited UniQlo, Zara, and multiple other stores in the area. The train station in Shinjuku is very large so we took a brief walk through there as well before heading back to the hostel for the night.
