7th day

Monday I went to a robot Cafe and it was soo cute. The robot greets you at the front and can speak English. The inside was magical but high tech looking. The robot that had our drinks got confused and a worker had to help get to us. But the robot was very sweet and the food was pretty good. I got a ham sandwich and some kind of really tiny cake. Then my classmates and I walked around the shopping area near our hostel. I didn't buy anything but I'll definitely go back. Then my whole class went to this very fancy hotel for a tea ceremony and everyone was dressed like the rich. Then there was me in jeans and a t-shirt. They had a koi fish pond and that area was gorgeous. It felt so peaceful but we couldn't do the tea ceremony because you had to make a reservation. So we are going back to have the tea ceremony Saturday, but I had a good and lastly I went out to eat and got pizza and had a drink. Slept good that night

Mori Tower: day 8.

This morning we visited Cafe Veloce for breakfast. I love the coffee here in Japan, and Cafe Veloce has a nice view on the upper level. I attempted to visit a bird Cafe but it was closed so I will have to visit another day. You could hear the birds from the outside of the shop, I was disappointed I couldn't visit. On my way back to the hostel, I visited two art museums in Ueno park: The Ueno Royal Museum and The National Museum of Western Art. There were paintings from Monet and his advisors! It was a neat experience, though I did lose my ticket partly through so I couldn't finish the entire museum. In the evening our class visited the Mori Tower, it was a beautiful evening to visit as well. Seeing Japan in the open air made the experience more exciting. We also attended a TempleU meeting on advertising and marketing about luxury in Japan and how Japanese are very modest in their buying habits.

Day 6 really day 7

It’s the 6th full day but our 7th day here. We went the tea house which I was so very excited for this was on my personal list of things to do, unfortunately they were unable to accommodate us today but told us to come back Saturday I’m very excited to go back and have that experience, we looked at the gardens which were absolutely Beautiful they had bonsai trees that were up to 500 years old!

Day 5 in Tokyo

Today was a rest day I caught up on sleep, laundry, homework, cleaning.  Some things we did this week that didn’t make previous blogs. We did karaoke which was sooo much fun!  We have tried so many different foods.  The restaurants are a lot smaller here so that they can be more intimate and engaged and I absolutely love that concept! The streets and train stations are so clean! The advertising is so fun everywhere they use a lot of fun characters to get your attention.

Day 4 in Tokyo

Today we went to Shibuya where the world's busiest crosswalk is which was cool to see, then we went to the Pokémon center where I absolutely geeked out like a little kid lol.  This train station might have actually been the bigger one, it all starts to run together after a few days.  It started to rain heavy, and we got separated from the group and decided to explore the train station and dry off, we had lots of amazing food then made our way back to the hostel.  Then had sushi with our new friends and explored some more.

Day 3 in Tokyo

We went to Shinjuku, the train station here was the biggest I have seen so far it was almost like a mall, tons of shops, food, and things to see and explore.  We went to Me Tokyo which is 3 floors of claw machines big and small, and a floor to dress up in cos play and take photos.  I spent a lot of time and coins on the claw machines, they were fun!  Then a group of us went to eat and had amazing ramen and the best fried rice I have ever had in my life!

We went to the metropolitan building

which had some awesome views and souvenirs!

Day 2 in Tokyo

We had a field assignment to Ueno Park and Ueno Zoo.  The park is beautiful, there are temples where you can pray and meditate, a huge pond full of Lilli pads. I loved the temples and there were vendors out Linda like a flea market so that was interesting as well.  I wasn't a fan of the zoo but only due to personal beliefs.

First day in Tokyo

I'm having so much fun that I forgot to blog, that's a good sign, right?  Our first night here we made a group of friends at a restaurant.  They are so friendly and funny; we went to dinner with them, and the younger friend Makito showed us around Tokyo.  They have helped us practice some Japanese and we helped them with their English.

Chill For Day 2

To start the day, we went to orientation that started which started at 9 AM. I slept pretty good for the first night but when I woke up, I was sleepy because our bodies were still on Tennessee time. During the orientation we talked about the dos and don’ts, it was basically the same thing that you talk about in the zoom call once you get accepted to the program. While there we got our emergency cards that have your name, where you are staying, and who to call if something happens to you if when out. We also gave Dr. V our passports so that he could get our train passes, that last us a week. Once that was over, I went over to the market to get some pancakes and orange juice before we went to class. Our class meeting wasn’t much of class more of a quick meet up and check in but while there Dr. V gave us a pass to go to the zoo. At the zoo we had to go and look at the animals and then walk around the park that that is outside the zoo. When we were walking the park outside the zoo, we had to us listen to an audio on GPSmycity, the audio tells you about the different things that are in the park and what they mean. To me the zoo was kind of sad because if you didn’t know they drug the animals so the don’t act as wild, for example the tigers were slow moving and looked rather skinny. As well as the gorillas and some monkeys, also they had the polar bear cut off from the water part of his cage, so he was just walking from door to door trying to get through to water, it was truly a terrible sight to see. Even they were drugged up a bit the gorillas seem to be enjoying each other. After leaving the park and zoo we were going to do a boat ride, but we decided not and just came back to the room because we were sleepy. When we got to the room, we made plans to go to a ramen place that was about a 10 mins away at 8 PM, until when we rested. When 8 came we got up and walked over to the ramen we kind of got lost because it was on the outside of the train station but maps was taking us inside the train station but soon figured out that it was on the outside. It was no rush to the place because they didn’t close until 6 AM. We had to wait in a line that moved rather quick and once we got to the front, we order the ramen. At this place it’s not like a regular restaurant with tables all over the room but instead think of little cubicles with dividers that you can open up so you can talk to the person next to you. I didn’t really care for the ramen it was too creamy for me but two of my friends did, oh and they only drink you’re going to get there is water lol so drink up. After we ate we came back to our room and got ready for bed.

Taiyaki: day 7.

Today we were going to visit a tea ceremony, but we were not able to. Once back at the hostel, I followed my roommates to Asakusa for their History class. I explored around the shrine in this area. I tried a matcha chocolate latte and a red bean taiyaki. They were delicious. After exploring the shops, I left Asakusa for class and took photos along the way. After class I explored near the hostel. I visited Uniqlo and a shoe store. Afterwards, my roommates and I visited a udon shop in Ueno station. This was my first time trying udon in Japan, it was amazing!

Monday 5/15/2023

Today we didn't do much, we had an excursion that we couldn't do because it was only one person so we weren't allowed to actually do what was planned. We had to reschedule our date, but we did see coi fish in person! Coi fish is very big and fat in person. I also saw a lot of people that got married around this beautiful place. After we got turned down, my friends & I went shopping AGAIN! to find an outfit to take pictures in Japan for our Instagram. We finally found our dream outfit, and we went to H&M to find it.
