Day 2

Today we had an orientation to go over the basics of how TNCIS runs and what is expected of us as students. We figured out how to navigate getting tax free with our passports and how we’ll be traveling with train passes. We also talked to a student who is studying Japanese at his institution in Japan. He talked us through the different coins and Japanese culture. After class we had a walking tour. In Akihabara we were taught that it was a town that sold radios during the war and evolved into creating and selling other appliances, hence the name Electric Town. We learned the difference between Shinto Shrines and Buddhist Temples. When we visited both we learned how to properly enter the shrines and pray at them. We also learned how samurai culture is still embedded in Japanese people’s lives today.
