My roommates and I went walking around Asakusa the other night. We tried waiting for the girls in our class but they were taking too long. We ended up going down this back alley because we were trying to find where this multicolored structure was located. As we got close enough, Chris remembered that it was an amusement park. We weren't trying to do that, so we headed back towards the main street.
We kept walking around, joking, laughing, and carrying. We made a turn and found this whole other alley with all types of shops and restaurants. We saw the "dollar store" Dr. V. had talked about and decided to check it out. In actuality, the store's true name is the 100 Yen Store. 100 yen is equal to our dollar. i snapped a few pictures and I think Chris bought something. We walked some more down the alley. We stopped at a traditional Japanese clothes store. The store had robes, gowns, and other items. Some of the robes we saw were quite expensive. I suggested that if they wanted something to try and haggle with the salesman to get a better price. Though, no one has really mentioned if it is acceptable to haggle in the little around Asakusa or Tokyo.
The man told us the price and we gave him a lower one. At first, I thought he was going to come back with another price but then he turned around and went back into his store. The Japanese shop person didn't speak English to us. Maybe he decided not to continue because he was worried about his English. We pretty much were done and were hungry. We headed back towards the hostel.
Along the way, we saw shop signs that appeared to have anime. We went up to the second floor and walked in the shop. The attendant asked if we spoke Japanese. We told him no. Then, he motioned to us wait for a minute. He pull out a notebook and opened the cover. It read: " Choose Six DVDs. Cash only. Stay as long as you like." Much to our surprise, the store did not sell anime. I won't go into detail but I think you can figure out where we stumbled into.
It's here where I found a some old childhood memories. I saw a DVD on the shelf. The character in front had a cape, a skull and crossbones shirt, an eye patch, and sword/laser pistol. I said to myself, "is this Captain Harlock? They made a CG movie about Captain Harlock!" I looked at the title and it read "Space Pirate Captain Harlock." The movie was made in 2013.
I still remember the theme song from the video I had in the early 1980's. I can still hear the intro of the trumpets sounding as the show begins. "I'll be your captain come follow my dream....show you wonders in space that you've never seen, TAKE TO THE SKY WITH ME!"
