Interesting Food Items Found In the Campus Bookstore and the Local Market

When I asked my Japanese partners about these food items, they said that they had never tried the majority of the them.

I saw these in the Chuo University campus bookstore. They are clearly Ritz bits sandwich crackers but with vanilla filling. I'll have to go back and try them to see if they are a cookie or actual cracker with vanilla filling.

Another Chuo University find. These are actually sweet potatoes.

These are dried plums that I found in the Chuo campus bookstore.

Another sweet potato product.

Okonomiyaki snack,  it's a type of pancake treat usually sweet.

Another flavor of Okonomiyaki snacks.

This called Amaita Taro. It's kind of a squid snack, very cheap. Another campus bookstore find.

Makiki - Spicy roasted fish paste. It is mainly eaten when drinking beer.

These were described as sun-dried tomatoes with amanatto, a candied soy bean. I found this at a local market.

I found these in the 100 Yen Store, a.k.a., the dollar store. They are basically red chili peppers. I was told that do not eat them alone but mixed with food while cooking.

Probably the most interesting foods were the Amaita Taro, the squid snack, and the Makiki (roasted fish paste).
