May 12, 2014 - First Japanese Dinner

My roommates and I met a Japanese man on the street outside the 7 eleven in Asakusa.  We asked him where we could find some restaurants. He spoke a little English and said to follow him. We went around the corner and he point to a few places. We followed down another alley, where he pointed to the sign and said to go upstairs. The host greeted us, sat us down, and passed out menus. To our dismay, the menus were in Japanese. The host made a phone call and seconds later, in broken English, said "English menus."

Minutes later the menus arrived. We ordered our food then talked to one another about the day's events. The party across from us began to interact with us by toasting us and gesturing. We happily returned there interest and followed suit.

Our dishes arrived and eagerly reached for the chopsticks. We sort of gave Chris a tutorial on how to hold the chopsticks. Luckily, my hand had not forgotten my time in China last year. Our meals consisted of chicken and vegetables, shrimp and fungi, rice, and dumplings. All of the food was good, though we did not expect the one of the dishes to be served cold. We asked for the bill and departed feeling satisfied. A good time was had by all this night.
